Over the past few months, I have been letting myself indulge in a little obsession of mine. I spent some time unemployed this year. If you’ve tried navigating the job market recently, I imagine you’ll understand why. Summer 20204 was a hot one. One of the things that kept me from going stir crazy was building my Ultimate Horror Movie Watchlist and chipping away at it any chance I got. On average, I’ve watched 4 movies per week since the beginning of May, all of them first-time viewings. I started documenting my progress on a random social media handle, but I’m not really one up to keep up with the socials. It felt kind of wrong keeping this endeavor of mine under wraps. It wasn’t really working, either; anyone who’s spent more that five minutes with me over the past few months has probably gotten an earful about my latest watch.
That brings us to today. A week ago, 2024 got just a little more special (*gag*). Halloween season actually slowed my movie-viewing speed, but the week that succeeded All Hallows’ Eve was enough to occasion another little dive into fiction. So much feels out of my control. Every uncertainty looming over me stinks of some very real horrors to come, and I’ve found comfort these past few months in distracting myself with horrors of a more fictional kind. The credits still roll, whether the ending was good or bad. Not only do I have control over these horrors, I have the ability to create something transformative from my experience with them, and for now that’s good enough for me.
I’m not sure just what this is going to be yet. Maybe I’ll be fancy and establish myself a little posting schedule, maybe I’ll keep it more lowkey and just review as I go. Let’s dive into this together, shall we?
